Held at the Saxon Academy on December 11th, our Christmas Social Event was enjoyed by all the attending members.
There were two concurrent activities: a competition for the best piece of artwork brought along by a member; and an art based quiz, with the group split across a number of tables.
The Society committee and members provided drinks and snacks to nibble on during the evening.
The Society extends its warmest wishes to everyone for a happy Christmas and a successful and fulfilling 2025.
October 18th to the 22nd saw our Autumn Exhibition on show at the Guildhall, Lichfield.
As 2024 is our 80th anniversary, we titled the show our 80th Anniversary Exhibition. The exhibition was very successful with 42 entrants, 1,000 visitors, £1,200 worth of artwork sold and several requests for information on how to join the Society.
Friday 18th saw the exhibition opening with a number of invited guests. These guests included local professional artists, managament of local museums and community groups as well as the Town Crier, Adrian Holmes. Kate Brinkworth, a professional artist, opened the exhibition.
Dave Robertson, our MP, offered his congratulations on reaching this impressive anniversary. "Your contributions to the community and the industry are commendable, and I am proud to represent a constituency with such a thriving artists society.
To honour this important occasion, I have submitted an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament to commemorate your 80 years of success. I believe it is essential to highlight the positive impact you have made over the years, and I hope this motion will garner support from my fellow MPs. Once this EDM has been ratified by Parliament, I will make sure to send you the link and share a physical copy when possible."
Society Chair Sue Crudgington commented that "the standard of artwork being exhibited is of an ever higher standard and we have artists showing pieces in styles or techniques that are new to them - an example of just how well our Society encourages artistic development".
Judging was carried out by Petra Rohr-Rouendaal from the Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists.
Several pieces of artwork were sold to visiting members of the public and a number of commissions were requested.
All visitors had the opportunity to vote for their favourite piece and the winner was Pete Wilding with his "Portrait of Stuart Wilson".
